This year i've had a secret weapon in my back pocket for those big walk in trips. That is the Stoney Creek Accelerant Jacket, at only 436g and packing down to next to nothing it's perfect to have in the pack for those big trips where space and weight is a concern. I have never been one to carry a down jacket into the mountains mostly because of the worry that if they got wet the down can collapse and not be overly useful. This jacket uses Primaloft gold which is a water repellent goose down mix which helps prevent it from collapsing.
Already this year I’ve seen myself shoulder my pack, lace up my boots and cover some serious kms in the mountains many times to try and achieve a few personal goals I have set.
Recently I did a huge walk in mission looking for stags, I was planning to cover lots of country so keeping the weight down was key. The forecast was less than ideal so I had to make sure I had plenty of warm clothes. Not wanting the bulk my micro plus hoodie, thermal dry and accelerant jacket tick all of those boxes using minimal space and weight.
After a marathon 9 hour walk into the area I wanted to hunt I set up camp. The weather hand packed up sooner than expected, the icy wind was cutting through me. Luckily I had the accelerant to keep me toasty.
The next morning I spotted an absolute ripper chamois feeding above camp, my Tuatara Camo Alpine Microplus Hoodie gave me the upper hand to get right in close to this ancient buck. I managed to shoot him while completely unaware at 19m.
This is when I was really stoked to have plenty of space in my pack. This big guy was destined for the wall with out a doubt.
